Hatchworks is a design and build company specializing in unique homes and structures: anywhere from classical Victorian to ultra-modern. We are intrigued by all forms of architecture, not just one. As both the designer and the builder, we deliver an integrated process where design decisions are reconciled with building realities in all parts of planning. Our primary goal is to understand our client’s lifestyle and how their home should work for them. We assess their current and future needs to create a space that will grow with them.

We particularly enjoy the challenge of small, efficient houses. Or regular sized houses, or treehouses or Quonset huts. We love Austin. We love East Austin. We also love nooks, cubby holes, mud rooms, dumb waiters, rolling ladders, lofts, transom windows, archways, handmade doors, and all the other little details that give a house a personality.

Who we are

Adam Talianchich founded Hatchworks after 7 years of building and living in his own homes. In these years, Adam has gained first hand experience of most every trade ranging from concrete work and framing all the way up to landscaping and sprinkler systems with everything in-between. He is a third generation builder, learning and compounding the knowledge from his father and grandfather. After a 10 year career in environmental science, Adam is pursuing his passion of building homes as a full time business.

Adam co-owns Hatchworks with his wife, Ashley Menger, an Interaction Designer with frog design. She contributes her understanding of user needs and wayfinding to the layout and flow of a house, and accounts for furniture layout in the design process. She also specializes in procuring fixtures and unique elements.
