We are a design-build firm. Our primary focus is new home design and construction or whole home remodels + additions. We are a small firm who wants to give each client their due time and focus. As such, we typically only take on two projects per year (ever so rarely three if we’re feeling saucy). As both the designer and the builder, we deliver an integrated process where design and budget decisions are reconciled with building realities in all parts of planning. We design and construct spaces that feel like home from the day you move in.
Function and Flow of a Home
We want to build a house that reflects how you live. We’ve built houses for cooks, potters, avid readers, birders, and Christmas enthusiasts. These interests influence and inspire the layout of a house. We enjoy getting to know our clients and the things they love (and hate!) to build truly customized spaces that function and enhance the things you do.
Style
We enjoy working on a range of architectural styles, not just one. Victorian, farmhouse, mid- century, spanish- we love them all. We’re inspired to build what you want. We particularly enjoy the challenge of small, efficient houses. Or regular sized houses, or treehouses or Quonset huts. We also love nooks, cubby holes, mud rooms, dumb waiters, rolling ladders, lofts, transom windows, archways, handmade doors, and all the other little details that give a house a personality.
Design-and-Build
Design- and- build is an integrated workflow, where we are both the designer and the builder. This gives us many efficiencies from budget (making design decisions with an understanding of cost and budget context) to workflow (making design decisions real time on the jobsite). This fluidity ensures the design intentions are carried out to the final stage of your house. We are designers who build. Builders who design.
Integrity of Materials
We build houses to last, and select materials to match. Pier- and- beam foundations, Solid wood doors, airtight foam insulation, select hardwoods, galvalum roofs, the list goes on. In our own house, we experiment with different materials and finishes to understand how they work and endure over time.
Project Management
Building a house is a full time job, and should not be yours. We manage the weekly expectations, educate you on decision points, and create a range of selections, so that you experience the highlights of building your home. We have a solid understanding of the City building codes and inspection process to ensure a smooth journey from breaking ground to final certificate of occupancy. We aim to make homebuilding an enjoyable journey.
